Global cause

Lions International's humanitarian goal is to identify the world's most crucial needs and provide humanitarian aid where it is needed most. The mission behind it is to empower Lions clubs, volunteers and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding. That is 1.4 million members, serving in more than 200 countries and geographic areas.

The Colleyville Lions Club was chartered on June 1, 1982, and belongs to Texas Lions District 2-E2. A local project can draw on district resources, and a district project can draw on the foundation. The chain runs both directions, which is why a small club can be part of something the size of a global cause.

Lions Clubs International Foundation is the global foundation supporting the members of Lions Clubs International through grant funds. Since its founding in 1968 it has awarded more than US$1.2 billion. One hundred percent of every donation goes to support LCIF grants and programs. Lions Clubs International itself is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization and is not eligible to accept or solicit charitable donations, so LCIF is the 501(c)(3) that can.

In addition to the many ways Lions serve locally, we also work together on global causes. In Colleyville the local half looks like vision screening at a pancake breakfast and scholarships for graduating seniors. The global half is what those same members belong to.
