The Drug Awareness Council educates youth and adults about the dangers of drug abuse and chemical dependency. It is a charity of Texas Lions District 2-E2, not a Colleyville Lions Club program, but its mailing address is P.O. Box 28, Colleyville, TX 76034, and its board meets by Zoom on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m.
- Red Ribbon Week, the council's annual awareness campaign in schools.
- The Youth Poster Contest, where students make the case visually.
- The Drug Awareness Speech Contest, where they make it out loud, for scholarship money.
Up to $6,000, and a Lions club has to put your name forward.
The district round awards $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second and $1,000 for third. The state round awards the same again, so a student who wins both can take home up to $6,000. Entry is open to students regularly enrolled in a Texas public high school or a comparable education program, as juniors or seniors, who intend to attend a college or university after graduation.
Here is the part that matters locally. Every applicant must be sponsored by a Lions club within District 2-E2, and the sponsoring club and the district pay all entry fees for the applicants they sponsor. If you are a Colleyville student, that sponsor is a phone call away.

The council also funds the clubs.
The Drug Awareness Council provides matching grants to Lions clubs that collaborate with schools to promote drug awareness. That turns a single club's project into a district-backed one.
